The rotating Acquisition Radar was capable of detecting the
approach of hostile aircraft at ranges of over 100 miles from the base. The radar antenna
was housed within a streamlined, weather resistant housing. Sandbags acted to stabilize
the legs of the Acquisition Radar at this temporary installation.
